Today is your day Boomer! Well, she didn't quite make it to age 100.....but it was one heck of a try! Boomers, on this first day of 2022, we can take a little inspiration from actress Betty White. See woman in green dress on right side of picture. I'm sure you recognize her; Betty passed away just before New Years at age 99, two weeks before her next birthday. If you followed her career, she was best known for comedic TV roles in the Mary Tyler Moore Show and Golden Girls where she delighted us week-after-week with her wit and charisma! She also starred in a number of movies....but what I liked about her best was her always-there smile and sense of optimism. She could make you laugh in a wink and I think she was at her best on those late-night TV talk shows like Carson and Letterman. For us Boomers, she has some advice on living to 100.....she says "don't eat anything green!" And while I disagree with her on that one, I do agree that laughter and an incredible sense of humour can prolong your life. She had that in spades! So....as we enter 2022, one resolution might be LAUGH MORE!!! You can figure out how. Cheers and Happy New Year Boomers!
Today is your day Boomer! And today is another day for wining......and I don't mean complaining. I mean drinking some pressed grapes and enjoying the health benefits. That's right, drinking alcohol is good for you. First, let's state the obvious....only in moderate amounts: two glasses per day for men and one for women. Research shows the following positive health effects: (1) reduces risk of Alzheimer's and Parkinson disease (2) is an anti-flammatory(white wine is better for this) (3) decreases risk of high blood pressure and high cholesterol(red wine is a better choice) (4) good for mental health, may increase age longevity, may promote healthy gut bacteria. All of this sounds good and much of it boils down to the antioxidants which are higher in red wine. It seems reds--like Merlot, Cab Sav, and Shiraz--have been studied more.....which means more research is needed on whites. Boomers, maybe we could volunteer for a new study! Cheers!
