Today is your day Boomer! I feel like a game of ping pong....a "here we go again" moment as researchers tell us the LATEST medical effects of drinking alcohol! Boomers often enjoy a nice glass of wine, a cider on a hot day, a beer after a golf game, or possibly multiple drinks at once-in-a-while backyard party. But the so-called research experts are boggling our minds. Here are the results of the most recent study. According to CTV News, "a new Canadian study of 4.8 million people says a daily alcoholic drink isn't likely to send anyone to an early grave, nor will it offer any of the health benefits touted by previous studies, even if it is organic red wine." What? Didn't they just tell us last month that we should have no more than 2 drinks a week?! Oh boy, let's get this straight please. The new study sounds like good news, right? "On the other hand, women who enjoy more than one standard drink per day are at least 20 per cent likely to die prematurely." Okay, a warning for women....but not for men. Why? It doesn't explain. It sounds like the old theory that red wine is better for your heart health than white wine....and eating eggs is good for you one day, but not the next! I am totally confused Boomers, are you? So, I think I will stick to the best advice on Earth....moderation is good for all bodily drink and food intake. Cheers, and enjoy your wine without worry.
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
