Today is your day Boomer! Hey Boomers, we only have a few decades left on this planet....maybe we should choose a community that is serious about attracting retired people. How about Vernon, BC...a city in the North Okanagan that already sports the biggest and best indoor pickleball facility in Canada, and now, a new 136 million dollar ALC(Active Living Centre)?! This is what it offers for us Boomers: "The new ALC includes an aquatic centre with an eight lane 50-meter pool with a moveable bulkhead and two diving boards; leisure pool with zero depth beach entry; tot slide; spray features; a lazy river and a family hot tub. Also featured will be a warm water 25-meter by-three lane teaching pool; sauna; steam room and adult’s only hot tub. The facility also includes a fitness centre, double gymnasium with multiple sports courts, a synthetic walking/running track and eight dedicated multipurpose activity and program rooms." Wow! Vernon also features two incredible recreation lakes(Okanagan and Kalamalka) for all types of boating, a great ski hill(Silver Star) nearby, a world-class spa(Sparkling Hill), numerous golf courses, and a mountain retirement community(Predator Ridge) with golf, walking trails, and indoor pickleball/tennis bubbles. You can pick and choose your future Boomers. Do your research and find a place close to family/friends and a great place to stay ACTIVE! Cheers!
Today is your day Boomer! And today is another day for wining......and I don't mean complaining. I mean drinking some pressed grapes and enjoying the health benefits. That's right, drinking alcohol is good for you. First, let's state the obvious....only in moderate amounts: two glasses per day for men and one for women. Research shows the following positive health effects: (1) reduces risk of Alzheimer's and Parkinson disease (2) is an anti-flammatory(white wine is better for this) (3) decreases risk of high blood pressure and high cholesterol(red wine is a better choice) (4) good for mental health, may increase age longevity, may promote healthy gut bacteria. All of this sounds good and much of it boils down to the antioxidants which are higher in red wine. It seems reds--like Merlot, Cab Sav, and Shiraz--have been studied more.....which means more research is needed on whites. Boomers, maybe we could volunteer for a new study! Cheers!
