Today is your day Boomer! Many Boomers, who don't follow hockey, may not understand the current popular term "Elbows Up". Canadian comedian Mike Myers reminded us with his gesture and t-shirt on SNL March 1....and since then, the nationalistic expression has taken off! It means to protect yourself or fight back, and goes back to the hockey playing days of Canadian great Gordie Howe. Gordie would score a ton of goals, but would always aggressively protect himself on ice with his elbows up. Many an opponent would skate away from Gordie with missing teeth or a bloody nose as they encountered his sharp, boney elbows and hockey stick. It's how he survived playing professional hockey well into his 50's, and how he gained a lot of respect in an often-violent game. Well now, it's back. It's back because of Donald, his unjustified tariffs, and his desire to annex our great, friendly nation. Elbows Up Canada....stand strong! We are resilient and tough....and Boomers, we will get through this challenge! Thanks for the reminder Mike...and thank you Gordie!
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
