Today is your day Boomer! Just finishing up a four-day stay-cation on a Gulf Island off Nanaimo, B.C.. Gabriola Island is just a short ferry ride to a welcoming island of just under 5000 people...with many of them Boomers! The average age is 51, so all the stores, beaches, and attractions are filled with grey-haired people, like me! Also, some spring break kids are out and about. The island has all the amenities you need, plus rich, cultural arts and craft attractions like pottery, roadside produce stands, festivals, pickleball, yoga, and many natural attractions: water-eroded limestone, deer, seals, birds, sandy and rocky beaches, wooded trails through moss-covered trees, and waterfalls! Even many place-names are natural: Honeysuckle Road, Buttercup Lane, and Whalebone Beach. Add to this man-made options like seaplane sight-seeing, salmon-fishing charters, pubs, restaurants, art galleries, and farm tours. And humourous signs like an old television perched up in a tree, called ...

Today is your day Boomer! For many Boomers in the southern part of Canada, golf starts this month! Yes!! It is one of our favourite pastimes, but we all know it is pricey. This year, even more. Why? Most golf equipment comes from the United States, and that means tariffs....possibly as high as 25% on many American-made sporting goods! "I mean, what are you going to do about it? You need the stuff, you’ve got to pay for it,” said golfer James Burchill.(CTV News) One golf centre owner says he is bracing for a 20% drop in sales this year as Canadians must make tough decisions on purchasing balls, shoes, clothes, and clubs. Also..."At Kunstadt Sports in Ottawa, they’re also noticing a change in behaviour from customers, who are doing what they can to avoid buy American." But that is difficult because most popular golf products, like Titelist, are not "Canadian-made". Boomers, we can blame Mr. Trump....but buy carefully and maybe put off those big golf purchases...

Today is your day Boomer! Many Boomers, who don't follow hockey, may not understand the current popular term "Elbows Up". Canadian comedian Mike Myers reminded us with his gesture and t-shirt on SNL March 1....and since then, the nationalistic expression has taken off! It means to protect yourself or fight back, and goes back to the hockey playing days of Canadian great Gordie Howe. Gordie would score a ton of goals, but would always aggressively protect himself on ice with his elbows up. Many an opponent would skate away from Gordie with missing teeth or a bloody nose as they encountered his sharp, boney elbows and hockey stick. It's how he survived playing professional hockey well into his 50's, and how he gained a lot of respect in an often-violent game. Well now, it's back. It's back because of Donald, his unjustified tariffs, and his desire to annex our great, friendly nation. Elbows Up Canada....stand strong! We are resilient and tough....and Bo...

Today is your day Boomer! Usually I promote healthy living on this blog....encouraging an active lifestyle and good eating habits. But, Donald you are driving us to drink! Yes, the U.S. President is doing so many "dumb" things almost every day that maybe we need a big Canadian beer! How about one beer per day for his entire four-year term? Yup, you can get the Moosehead Presidential Pack delivered to your door in Ontario, New Brunswick, or Nova Scotia. It is a CRATE of lager, containing 1461 cans, it costs $3490(plus tax and deposit), and you can keep the great crate! A spokesperson for the brewery says "If the start of 2025 has taught us anything, it’s that it will take determination to weather four years of political uncertainty—and what better way to make it through each day than with a truly Canadian beer." Alright...a good Canadian beer every day to drown our sorrows....or....hold a really big Boomer friend/family party and drink it all at once!! But who has ...

Today is your day Boomer! We've all heard, and maybe experienced, driverless cars...but what about eVTOLs? Hmmmm....no? Well, think of the Jetsons cartoon(see picture) and imagine yourself in a flying taxi! Missing all that traffic below, getting there quicker, with a great view! eVTOL stands for "electric vertical take-off and landing vehicle: it lifts off the ground like a helicopter before flying at speeds up to 200 miles per hour (322 kilometers per hour) with a range of about 100 miles (161 kilometers). And these craft do it without filling the air with excessive noise caused by fuel-powered helicopters and small airplanes."(Associated Press) However...“It’s a tricky business to develop a whole new class of vehicles,” said Alan Lim, director of Alton Aviation Consultancy, a firm tracking the industry’s evolution. “It is going to be like a crawl, walk, run situation. Right now, I think we are still crawling. We are not going to have the Jetsons-type reality where ev...
