Today is your day Boomer! Today is the start of hockey season! That's right.....finally, the NHL gets skating with the likes of Connor McDavid and Elias Petterson matching up on TV tonight at 7:00pm. It is a dream come true for many male Boomers who have spent much of this COVID winter watching The Bachelor with their wives or endless Netflix series like Virgin River. Of course, time spent with your spouse is very important.....but so is hockey! It is Canada's national sport (along with lacrosse) and is fervently followed by millions of Canadians every day. Many women watch hockey too and this year is a little special. The main negative is you can't attend any games, but the big positive is the new northern "Canadian" division. Teams, like the Canucks, will only play other Canadian teams until the playoffs. That is exciting because of all the rivalries like Montreal vs Toronto, but its downfall is that we won't see great players live like Sydney Crosby who are playing in the U.S. divisions. Oh well, we can suck it up....I mean puck it up! Cheers!
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
