Today is your day Boomer! Are you missing hockey like me? The NHL is on COVID-hold and my urge to see puck action is starved! So, Boomers, how about the World Junior Championships beginning today in Edmonton? It is fannnnnnnntastic hockey with our young guys going for gold against the likes of Sweden, Russia, Finland, and the USA. Canada's team features the first 16-year-old, Connor Bedard, in many years....in fact, since Connor McDavid, and you know how good he turned out! This team is good, well-balanced, playing at home, and filled with stars. And the hockey is outstanding....as these kids play with incredible emotion! If you have never watched it, tune in at 4:00 Pacific time on TSN and not only get a hockey fix.....but a big taste of Canadian nationalism when we all probably need some good news. And different news....something other than Omicron, travel restrictions, freezing weather, and skyrocketing inflation. Boomers, Czech it out....how Swede it will be....Canada will cut through their opponents like Swiss cheese and Finnnnnn-ish them off! GO CANADA GO! P.S. It really beats Boxing Day shopping too. Cheers!
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
