Today is your day Boomer! It was a glorious, sunny winter day for a hike! Check out the picture as my wife, my dog, and I headed out into the wilderness in the South Okanagan. But in the parking lot, we got a wakeup call. There were two hunters, in their full camo gear, getting ready to hunt deer on the same trail! We headed out with trepidation and hoped and wondered what might happen. It kind of puts a damper on a wonderful day as you may imagine us thinking about the possibility of bullets flying around our heads! Then it got reinforced later in the hike when we met another Boomer couple with their dog.....only, they were wearing bright jackets. In fact, the man was sporting one of those bright, reflective vests you see flag people wearing on highways. I looked down and noticed we were in basic black....not a good colour if you want high visibility in a hunting zone! So, Boomers beware. Cold weather hiking can be fun, but also dangerous. Like a good boy scout, be properly prepared. Cheers.
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
