Today is your day Boomer! Remember when we got a dog or cat early in our married lives to prepare us for child-rearing? We learned about animal bathroom habits, food, walking with a leash, discipline, love, and loyalty. It was a good idea, but now....something new, but similar, is coming for many of us Boomers. It is called "grandparenthood".....if that is even a word. Yes, many of our children are in their 20's or 30's, and maybe....just maybe....we can expect that they could soon be "expecting"! In preparation, I think a must-read is the BC Health Guide....no, I mean a new non-fiction book called "Dad Up". It is for Dads, but the relearning of parenthood is really good for grand pa's and ma's. Topics like diapers, strollers, bottle feeding, and playground strategies are included....and best of all, the author is Steve Patterson, a long-time popular Canadian comedian, so the humour is outstanding. Trust me, you will get a big laugh or chuckle in every paragraph on every page. This guy is good! The book is in libraries across Canada and is easily affordable online or at fine book stores. So, prep-up Boomers with Dad Up and get ready for those great babysitting adventures ahead!!!!! Cheers.
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
