Today is your day Boomer! You know for a while on the weekend I was complimenting the so-called trucker protest in Ottawa. Thousands of frustrated people travelled from all over Canada, in the middle of winter, to voice their frustrations over vaccine mandates. The protest was loud, but mostly peaceful. Then....much to my disgust, some idiots took over the news headlines, dancing and urinating in a shameful way on the revered war memorial. Then the Terry Fox statue was violated, and what this picture doesn't show was he was made to hold an upside-down Canada flag. This was very inappropriate and a true mockery of a Canadian hero! The harrassment of soup kitchen workers and a mall blockade were other unfortunate incidents....and criminal charges are pending for some individuals. Good. And one other thing to remember protestors: the Charter of Rights and Freedoms gives you rights like freedom of peaceful assembly, and freedom of conscience.....but it does not allow for absolute rights. The "reasonable limits" section states clearly that individual freedoms can be limited by what is best for the collective common good....ie. public safety. Remember that. The "we" in Canada is more important than the "me"......
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
