Today is your day Boomer! Just over half of all Canadians have stated, in a recent poll, that we should be boycotting the Winter Olympics in China. This is, of course, because of supposed human rights abuses in that Asian nation and the recent treatment of the two "Stevens"....Canadians that were finally released from jail last year. OK, I agree. China is not the best role model in our world.....but the Olympics is about "sport", not "politics", and let's not confuse the two. Thousands of top athletes have been training their entire lives to make it to this top level and you want to deny them the opportunity?! This includes a young man I taught in Summerland many years ago; you can see us together in this picture as Justin Kripps came back to his old high school with his bobsledding gold medal! What a great chance for him to encourage students to follow their dreams! If the Olympics were cancelled, this never would have happened. By the way, Justin is in Beijing right now trying to win another gold. And after one day of competition, Canada has already won two medals. Boomers, let's sit back and enjoy the Games, and keep politics out of it. GO CANADA GO! Cheers.
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
