Today is your day Boomer! Outdoor skating, on a sunny crisp day....nothing beats it Boomers! I think of this as Penticton, B.C. opens its new downtown outdoor rink today....joining Kelowna in the Okanagan Valley as one of the few communities to offer such a great service. At approximately half the size of an NHL ice surface, the rink has a built-in refrigeration system that will allow it to operate with ambient temperatures as warm as 10 C. A public washroom facility, with storage space for an ice resurface, is located next to the rink. You must wear masks as you skate, but who cares? It is a beautiful, sunny day and I think the rink will be packed with people. Honestly though, a much better experience is a winter lake much like the one in the picture. Some members of my family are headed to the Rockies soon for some winter fun time, and I hope this is on the agenda! Nothing beats it, especially if the ice is clear....it seems like you can skate forever, and the only drawback is shooting a puck and having to chase it for something like three miles! Boomers, what an experience. Put it on your bucket list, and cheers!
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
