Today is your day Boomer! Okay, okay.....I know I don't drink enough water. Everyone tells me I drink too much "other stuff" like coffee, tea, juice, and milk.....but, supposedly, health experts agree on the 8x8 rule. That is, we need 8 glasses of 8 ounces of water each and every day for good health and bodily function. The website "Healthline" also tells us more: (1)Where you live. You will need more water in hot, humid, or dry areas. You’ll also need more water if you live at a high altitude. (2)Your diet. If you drink a lot of coffee and other caffeinated beverages you might lose more water through extra urination. You will likely also need to drink more water if your diet is high in salty, spicy, or sugary foods. Or, more water is necessary if you don’t eat a lot of hydrating foods that are high in water like fresh or cooked fruits and vegetables. (3)The temperature or season. You may need more water in warmer months than cooler ones due to perspiration. (4)Your environment. If you spend more time outdoors in the sun or hot temperatures or in a heated room, you might feel thirstier faster. (5)How active you are. If you are active during the day or walk or stand a lot, you’ll need more water than someone who’s sitting at a desk. If you exercise or do any intense activity, you will need to drink more to cover water loss.
(6)Your health. If you have an infection or a fever, or if you lose fluids through vomiting or diarrhea, you will need to drink more water. If you have a health condition like diabetes you will also need more water. Some medications like diuretics can also make you lose water. By the way, I chuckle when I see this picture. Boomers, how many of us drink Powerade or Gatorade instead of just plain ol' water? Cheers!
Today is your day Boomer! Well, yesterday was my day! My long-awaited dream of building and opening a new high school gym in Summerland came true! 550 students watched, smiled and vigourously applauded as the SD67 school trustees officially cut the ribbon and opened the facility. The kids played in their new gym, in a so-called Rocket Rally, right after that and then 200 more mostly-Summerlanders attended a two-hour opening fundraiser that evening. There were people, young and old, every where: going on tours, eating food, watching volleyball and basketball, listening to speeches, and investing money in 30 community-donated silent auction items and a huge 50/50 raffle...organized by the school's Parent Advisory Council. The final fundraiser tally was about 7000$...made in only two hours! Congratulations students and staff of SSS. Your new gym is finally here, the first new one since 1951! Play on....
