Today is your day Boomer! Many Boomers think of warmer climates when considering holidays and travel. You know, some beach time....tropical rainforests, ocean gazing etc. But how about something different? Some family members of mine recently spent a week in March in the Rockies in the snow and sun.....hiking near icy rivers, lakes, and waterfalls with sun-crested mountains in the background. They also hit the local hot springs and spa. Speaking of cold, have you considered Iceland? It is one of the most popular tourist destinations and cheapest since 2008. It is also considered the friendliest nation in the world to visit and, of course, the winter ice scenery is stunning. And speaking of stunning, this picture features "ice waves" in chilly Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba. As well, icebergs in Lake Winnipeg sometimes have stripes, formed by layers of snow that react to different conditions. Blue stripes are often created when a crevice in the ice sheet fills up with melt water and freezes so quickly that no bubbles form. When an iceberg falls into the lake, a layer of water can freeze to the underside. If this is rich in algae, it can form a green stripe. Brown, black and yellow lines are caused by sediment, picked up when the ice sheet grinds downhill towards the lake. Seeking travel variety Boomers? Try some winter fun! Cheers.
