Today is your day Boomer! Okay Boomers, do you want the good news or bad news today? How about both? It is April 1st, so the bad news is that someone may play an April Fools joke on you today. Watch out for crazy media stories and Saran Wrap on the toilet! More bad.....the price of alcohol goes up today as another federal excise tax kicks in; this even applies to to non-alcoholic beer! Also, gas is going up about 2 cents a litre as another Carbon Tax increase takes effect....oh boy! On the good side, you can cross the border now into the U.S. without a COVID test; this opens up the ease of travelling for Boomers who are coming back from warmer states. April means spring is officially here and we can expect nicer, warmer days ahead. And for Boomers who still have a job, it is International Walk To Work Day and this means: "Walking can be a great stress reliever. It not only works the muscles and increases heart rates, but also allows the senses to take in different environmental stimuli, from the gentle breeze and bird sounds to the smell of flowers in the air and a much-needed dose of vitamin D. If you’re working from home, you can celebrate the day by simply walking within the spaces of your home or taking a stroll around the block." Any way you perceive this day, Boomers, it is YOUR day! Make the most of it, and cheers!
Today is your day Boomer! Well, yesterday was my day! My long-awaited dream of building and opening a new high school gym in Summerland came true! 550 students watched, smiled and vigourously applauded as the SD67 school trustees officially cut the ribbon and opened the facility. The kids played in their new gym, in a so-called Rocket Rally, right after that and then 200 more mostly-Summerlanders attended a two-hour opening fundraiser that evening. There were people, young and old, every where: going on tours, eating food, watching volleyball and basketball, listening to speeches, and investing money in 30 community-donated silent auction items and a huge 50/50 raffle...organized by the school's Parent Advisory Council. The final fundraiser tally was about 7000$...made in only two hours! Congratulations students and staff of SSS. Your new gym is finally here, the first new one since 1951! Play on....
