Today is your day Boomer! We are all getting older Boomers, but maybe we can get older....slower! Exciting new research from the U.K. has just been announced that may reverse the aging of skin cells by 30 years. The research program indicates that they partly restored the function of older cells, without losing their specialized function. And these partially rejuvenated cells also showed signs of behaving more like youthful cells. What does this mean? One doctor says "eventually, we may be able to identify genes that rejuvenate without reprogramming, and specifically target those to reduce the effects of aging. This approach holds promise for valuable discoveries that could open up an amazing therapeutic horizon." For example, they mention Alzheimer's and cataracts as possible aging medical targets for Boomers and seniors! Right now, the average age of death in Canada is 82; it is supposed to rise to 84 by 2050, but with this new research.....maybe, just maybe, it will be a much higher number! Keep your fingers crossed Boomers! Gotta love that new research and technology. Cheers!
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
