Today is your day Boomer! Yesterday's "good news" was partially about Boomers returning to the U.S. for some cross-border shopping. We can do this now without expensive and time-consuming COVID tests. So, what are the prices like? A survey yesterday in Bellingham, Washington...which is just across the border from Vancouver, BC revealed some pretty good savings! Check this out: "After converting to Canadian dollars, a typical jug of whole milk in Bellingham sold for $2.49, while the same product in B.C. was $5.89. A carton of 18 large white eggs in Bellingham was the equivalent of $3.12 Canadian compared to $5.89 in B.C. A loaf of whole wheat bread, on the other hand, actually cost more in Washington, retailing for the equivalent of $2.49 Canadian at Fred Meyer, but available in B.C. for $2.29. And then there’s the gas, which was selling for US$4.29 per gallon, which according to USGAS.ca converts to about CAD$1.42 per litre." In my BC town, gas sells for about 50 cents higher. Good deals Boomers! Something to think about or take action on. Cheers.
Today is your day Boomer! Well, yesterday was my day! My long-awaited dream of building and opening a new high school gym in Summerland came true! 550 students watched, smiled and vigourously applauded as the SD67 school trustees officially cut the ribbon and opened the facility. The kids played in their new gym, in a so-called Rocket Rally, right after that and then 200 more mostly-Summerlanders attended a two-hour opening fundraiser that evening. There were people, young and old, every where: going on tours, eating food, watching volleyball and basketball, listening to speeches, and investing money in 30 community-donated silent auction items and a huge 50/50 raffle...organized by the school's Parent Advisory Council. The final fundraiser tally was about 7000$...made in only two hours! Congratulations students and staff of SSS. Your new gym is finally here, the first new one since 1951! Play on....
