Today is your day Boomer! Sports fan Boomers.....it is the best time of the year! Almost every sport is on TV right now. The NHL season is in full swing with my Bruins on top of the league; Canada's basketball team, the Raptors, are young, fast and filled with stars as they are about five games into their season; it is game three of the Astros/Phillies World Series tonight; the mens soccer World Cup gets going in November with Canada in for the first time in what seems forever; the CFL is entering playoffs with three straight wins needed for a Grey Cup; football to the south is about halfway through their season with Canadian fav teams Seattle and Buffalo showing winning records; curling and figure skating has started; tennis continues with our pro men, AA and Shap, making and winning tournament finals; golf is always on TV it seems, and Netflix is putting on commercials.....so, why watch that? By the way, I watch sports on TSN, Sportsnet, and the major American channels like CBS and NBC....but don't forget about streaming services like Sportsurge. It isn't perfect, but it's free.....happy watching Boomers! Cheers.
Today is your day Boomer! Well, yesterday was my day! My long-awaited dream of building and opening a new high school gym in Summerland came true! 550 students watched, smiled and vigourously applauded as the SD67 school trustees officially cut the ribbon and opened the facility. The kids played in their new gym, in a so-called Rocket Rally, right after that and then 200 more mostly-Summerlanders attended a two-hour opening fundraiser that evening. There were people, young and old, every where: going on tours, eating food, watching volleyball and basketball, listening to speeches, and investing money in 30 community-donated silent auction items and a huge 50/50 raffle...organized by the school's Parent Advisory Council. The final fundraiser tally was about 7000$...made in only two hours! Congratulations students and staff of SSS. Your new gym is finally here, the first new one since 1951! Play on....
