Today is your day Boomer! Do I need to state the obvious Boomers? The BC Government has issued an alert for today that says no one should drive on high mountain highways in the southern interior unless it is an "emergency"! That means you don't have to get home for Christmas today....it could be tomorrow or another day soon. What it really means is use some common sense and stay where you are until it is safe. Yes, your family wants you safe....and yes, they will delay celebrating Christmas until you get there! The roads are crap.....accidents every where, and the problem is the bad, snowy weather and "the other guy", who is driving too fast for the conditions. You may see yourself as a good driver, and you probably are, but the other variables are too risky. I talked to a police officer once about winter driving in the BC Interior and he said black ice is the biggest problem.....you just can't see it and it is too unpredictable. He also said most drivers in our area have already suffered through at least one accident on snow or black ice. Words of wisdom Boomers. Be safe and smart on the holidays. Please...
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
