Today is your day Boomer! No one really wants to here this, but the average Canadian gains between 1-2 pounds over the holiday season. Yup, that includes you too Boomers as we indulge in larger-than-normal dinners, lots of snacks, and increased amounts of alcohol....ie. rum and egg nog. The website Healthline offers 20 tips to keep your weight down, and here are the first eight:
(1) Be active with family and friends.
(2) Snack wisely.
(3) Watch your portion sizes.
(4) Practice mindful eating.
(5) Get plenty of sleep.
(6) Control your stress levels.
(7) Keep meals balanced with protein.
(8) Focus on fiber.
Here is more info on the "snacking" tip, especially as it refers to all those rich Xmas treats: "try to be mindful of your snacking habits. If you find yourself munching just because there’s food around — and not because you’re hungry — it’s best to avoid snacking altogether. However, if you are hungry and need a snack, opt for real foods. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds are filling snacks that don’t contain added sugars or unhealthy fats — both of which can lead to weight gain."
Good luck Boomers. If want more tips and detail, check out their website. Cheers!
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
