Today is your day Boomer! But today may NOT be a good day to set up a winter, warm trip to Mexico.
Our friend to the south is experiencing a rush of cartel violence and, apparently, the streets are not very safe in tourist hotspots like Mazatlan! Some tourists are in lockdown in their hotels, while others are being advised to not engage in risky activities. This statement is from Canadian travel agent Lori Smith: "my advice is the same no matter the destination; have your wits about you, always ... follow safety practices that you would follow at home. Don't be getting floor-licking drunk and go out adventuring. That's maybe a bad choice." Across the country, the popular Cancun region is also under threat for increased rates of violent crime, armed robbery, assault, kidnapping and fraud. Oh, not good. I have been to Mexico myself and the country is generally pretty safe, and about 2 million Canadians go there every year. Boomers, better do your due dilligence and research all the accurate information before you go....that includes checking with the federal government. Cheers and good luck!
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
