Today is your day Boomer! Might be worth a trip to Penticton, BC this summer Boomers. The annual Peachfest celebration is featuring some pretty good entertainers like Doug and the Slugs and Aaron Pritchard, but I think it is the cover or tribute bands that are attracting the most attention! Dreams (Fleetwood Mac), Eagle Eyes (The Eagles) and Arrival (Abba) are three of the top three cover bands in Canada and Eagle Eyes was a sellout at the same festival last year. "We rarely book the same band two years in a row but the performance by Eagle Eyes, and the thunderous ovation from the crowd, convinced us to make an exception,” said Peach Festival president Shawna Guitard. “If you close your eyes, you’ll think you’re listening to the Eagles.” And also realize it is going to be very difficult to watch the "real" versions of these three bands as they all have lost key members in the last few years; for example, imagine watching a Fleetwood Mac concert without lead singer Christine McVie who died last November. Another reason to come in August Boomers? It is all FREE! Yes, the Peachfest concert series is the biggest free festival in North America! Cheers.
Today is your day Boomer! And today is another day for wining......and I don't mean complaining. I mean drinking some pressed grapes and enjoying the health benefits. That's right, drinking alcohol is good for you. First, let's state the obvious....only in moderate amounts: two glasses per day for men and one for women. Research shows the following positive health effects: (1) reduces risk of Alzheimer's and Parkinson disease (2) is an anti-flammatory(white wine is better for this) (3) decreases risk of high blood pressure and high cholesterol(red wine is a better choice) (4) good for mental health, may increase age longevity, may promote healthy gut bacteria. All of this sounds good and much of it boils down to the antioxidants which are higher in red wine. It seems reds--like Merlot, Cab Sav, and Shiraz--have been studied more.....which means more research is needed on whites. Boomers, maybe we could volunteer for a new study! Cheers!
