Today is your day Boomer! My fav all-time music band is The Beatles....as it is for many Boomers! We grew up with songs like Hey Jude, Let it Be, and Love Me Do. So, where did these songs come from....what is their origin? This intrigues me because John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote over 300 songs together, and in a YouTube video I recently watched, Paul says it was always a shared, kind of "ping pong" event. One person would have an idea or even just a few words of a verse and they would sit with a guitar and/or piano and finish it together! Here's a few song "origin" samples from the video: (1)HEY JUDE came from the divorce of John and his first wife Cynthia. Paul felt sorry for the couple's son Julian(Jude) who would suffer the effects of the breakup. (2)LET IT BE was a dream for Paul who lost his Mom at an early age. In the dream, his mother comes to him and tells him everything "will be OK! just let it be." (3)BLACKBIRD is Paul's tribute to the US Civil Rights movement and especially black women and future hope. (4)YESTERDAY was originally called "Scrambled Eggs". (5)HELTER SKELTER was the duo's jealousy over The Who having gone heavy metal and Paul wanting something... "raw and screamy". Boomers, there is way more on the 27 minute YouTube video and what's more.....read the last chapter of the James Pattison book: The Final Days of John Lennon. I love this stuff! Cheers.
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
