Today is your day Boomer! A bunch of old guys having coffee at Tim Hortons....I never thought that would be me. But now that I am 64 and I have a lot of golf and bridge friends, we have started doing just that! And....I like it and I look forward to it. By the way, health specialists say the key to a longer life and a good retirement is lots of social interation. And loneliness plays a key role in all of this. According to aging specialist Harry Owen Taylor, the people most likely to be negatively affected by loneliness are those who are going through a major life change, such as the loss of a job, retirement, the death of a loved one, a breakup, or moving to a new city. He says "loneliness is associated with almost any type of health outcome you can think of, from physical health to mental health to cognitive health and overall mortality…. You have about a 26 per cent higher chance of dying if you are lonely." Wow....26%. Something to think about Boomers as we all emerge from the isolating time of COVID! Cheers.
