Today is your day Boomer! Is there any doubt that climate change is happening.....that global warming is getting worse? Look at the evidence from just this week: (1) another big heat wave is on its way to B.C. with health warnings from medical officials (2) the forest fire season is in full rage across Canada and the U.S. with normally-moist, tropical Maui now aflame in the worst way (3) and climate global temperatures were shattering records for July. Here is more info from the World Meteorological Organization: "The global average temperature for July 2023 is confirmed to be the highest on record for any month. The month was 0.72°C warmer than the 1991-2020 average for July, and 0.33°C warmer than the previous warmest month, July 2019. The month is estimated to have been around 1.5°C warmer than the average for 1850-1900. Heatwaves were experienced in multiple regions of the Northern Hemisphere, including southern Europe. Well-above average temperatures occurred over several South American countries and around much of Antarctica." By the way, 2015-2022 were officially the 8 warmest years on record! Is there any doubt we have to do something about this?! Governments, and all of us....listen up and do!
Today is your day Boomer! And today is another day for wining......and I don't mean complaining. I mean drinking some pressed grapes and enjoying the health benefits. That's right, drinking alcohol is good for you. First, let's state the obvious....only in moderate amounts: two glasses per day for men and one for women. Research shows the following positive health effects: (1) reduces risk of Alzheimer's and Parkinson disease (2) is an anti-flammatory(white wine is better for this) (3) decreases risk of high blood pressure and high cholesterol(red wine is a better choice) (4) good for mental health, may increase age longevity, may promote healthy gut bacteria. All of this sounds good and much of it boils down to the antioxidants which are higher in red wine. It seems reds--like Merlot, Cab Sav, and Shiraz--have been studied more.....which means more research is needed on whites. Boomers, maybe we could volunteer for a new study! Cheers!
