Today is your day Boomer! Just got back from a camping trip in the Rockies with a mix of good and bad news. The hiking/camping weather in mid-September was outstanding with most days sunny and in the low 20's, but a chilly 2 degrees at night! Boomers, keep that in mind when tenting and choosing a suitable sleeping bag. I was happy to have a well-insulated travel trailer with a propane furnace! Expect overflowing sites at this time of year....places like Emerald Lake and Takaka Falls were just jammed with people and parking was extremely scarce. I recommend early morning or late afternoon visit times if you are heading to these places; that includes Lake Louise and downtown Banff. By the way, Banff was just a zoo of people; one example was camping; there were three campgrounds at Banff with about 1000 spots and we barely got one on a non-weekend night! There were people everywhere.....especially tourists. You can really see the economic generator that tourism is when you go to the Rockies. Expect a lot of RVs, rental cars, camera spots, and slow hikers and walkers. Boomers, it is beautiful....see picture, but it is an over-populated zone of recreation. Happy camping....cheers!
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
