Today is your day Boomer! On a recent vacation trip, my wife and I met a young couple coming home with a new puppy. What an exciting time for them, and what an expensive time! The price was a whopping 4500$ Canadian for this pure bred animal. This is what Wikipedia says: "The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is a medium-sized gundog bred primarily for hunting. It is often referred to as a "toller". It is the smallest of the retrievers, and is often mistaken for a small Golden Retriever. Tollers are intelligent, eager to please, alert, and energetic. The name "toller" is derived from their ability to lure waterfowl within gunshot range." All that sounds good, except the price. So, I did some research on dog prices....and no surprise Boomers, you will pay much more since the pandemic. Anywhere from 2000-3500$ US for the most expensive breeds, including two tied for top price: Norwich Terrier and Neapolitan Mastiff. Yikes! And one more number, you will spend anywhere from 14,000-34,000$ US to raise this puppy to end of life! But check out the picture...they are still so cute!!!!! Good luck Boomers.
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
