Today is your day Boomer! Boomers watch a lot of television....some studies say as much as 24/hours per week. But one thing is for sure; we are much more "traditional" in our watching habits compared to younger generations. According to Statista.com, "40 percent of U.S. baby boomers, born between 1946 and 1964, used cable TV daily, while only a quarter of surveyed millenials, born between 1981 and 1996, and 17 percent from Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012, stated to do so." I'm sure the numbers would be similar for Canada, but it seeems we are still hooked on "cable" while younger people watch streaming services and paid-for specialty TV like Hulu and Crave. Why? I'm speculating, but it is quicker and easier to access the channels we want from cable and this is the way we have done it for a long time. We are not as flexible, I guess. And....I assume many Boomers do not want to do anything illegal like pirating TV shows and movies from an internet stream. We also like to watch on a big screen, while younger people are more open to watching on a smaller computer screen. It is one of the new ways of our modern world....cheers Boomers!
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
