Today is your day Boomer! For some reason, other younger generations like to complain about us! I don't know why....I thought we were mostly nice people, but I guess we do some things differently that rub some young people the wrong way. Here are ten samples from a recent survey: (1) Obsessive yard work....see picture! (2) The 'We went through it, and so do you!' mentality. (3) Callng instead of texting (except in the case of an emergency). (4) Whining about how millennials and Gen Z are all entitled brats. (5) Making youngsters feel bad for not buying their own house. (6) Being ignorant when it comes to technology. (7) Their racism? It's on the surface, covered by jokes, innuendos, and bad stories. (8) Work/life balance is bull....Boomers want a'workhorse' mentality in their employees. (9) Supporting a political candidate just because they represent a particular party. (10) The need to recant how when they were kids, they 'played outside in the dirt with sticks, because they didn't need electronics. I love these....and yes, some are true to some extent. And yes, some are me in living colour. But every generation is unique; it doesn't mean we are bad people. Cheers Boomers!
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
