Today is your day Boomer! Is the "e-scooter" in your future Boomers? This picture is not for promoting a certain brand of scooter, but it certainly gives you food for thought. This highly-rated Hiboy sells for 550$ on Amazon and can take the weight of a person under 220 pounds, it can travel up to 40km on one battery charge, and can go up to 30km per hour! Not bad....it also features an optional seat which is maybe a good idea for longer trips. Yes, it is made for urban travel, in and around neighbourhoods....but could it work for you? Could you take it downtown for a small shopping trip, or to pickleball 5 minutes away, or to your library a few blocks away? It is not great, obviously in snow or heavy rain, but what about in three of our four seasons? And now the BC Government is getting serious about it; they recently did a pilot project in 13 communities and now are embarking on a four-year study into how e-scooters can fit into our provincial transportation system! Here's one example: "data collected for the earlier pilot project found that 48 per cent of 600,000 trips by e-scooters and other micromobility devices used in Kelowna over two years had replaced trips by vehicles." My Boomer friends, these things help save the Earth from global warming!!! Think about it, or just do it. By the way, they look like a lot of fun! Cheers.
Today is your day Boomer! And today is another day for wining......and I don't mean complaining. I mean drinking some pressed grapes and enjoying the health benefits. That's right, drinking alcohol is good for you. First, let's state the obvious....only in moderate amounts: two glasses per day for men and one for women. Research shows the following positive health effects: (1) reduces risk of Alzheimer's and Parkinson disease (2) is an anti-flammatory(white wine is better for this) (3) decreases risk of high blood pressure and high cholesterol(red wine is a better choice) (4) good for mental health, may increase age longevity, may promote healthy gut bacteria. All of this sounds good and much of it boils down to the antioxidants which are higher in red wine. It seems reds--like Merlot, Cab Sav, and Shiraz--have been studied more.....which means more research is needed on whites. Boomers, maybe we could volunteer for a new study! Cheers!
