Today is your day Boomer! These people show us that it certainly is possible. A man recently walked from Mission to Vancouver, 17 hours and about 100 km, all in one continuous trek! Mykael Koe says he has lost 155 pounds in the past 3 years since he took up walking. Wow! He adds: "It's a beautiful experience to get out and explore the Fraser Valley and see it from another angle; it's really incredible how diverse the culture is here." Now....take a look at this map. This could be the longest walk ever....from southern Africa to northwestern Russia, over 22,000 km!! And I know at least four sets of friends or relatives that have recently done long walks in Portugal, Spain, France, and the U.K......by the way, all of them are Boomers! Maybe it is a new trend, something unique, challenging, and different from the standard, long-distance bike trips. Something to think about Boomers....something exciting, stimulating, and inspiring! Cheers.
Today is your day Boomer! Well, yesterday was my day! My long-awaited dream of building and opening a new high school gym in Summerland came true! 550 students watched, smiled and vigourously applauded as the SD67 school trustees officially cut the ribbon and opened the facility. The kids played in their new gym, in a so-called Rocket Rally, right after that and then 200 more mostly-Summerlanders attended a two-hour opening fundraiser that evening. There were people, young and old, every where: going on tours, eating food, watching volleyball and basketball, listening to speeches, and investing money in 30 community-donated silent auction items and a huge 50/50 raffle...organized by the school's Parent Advisory Council. The final fundraiser tally was about 7000$...made in only two hours! Congratulations students and staff of SSS. Your new gym is finally here, the first new one since 1951! Play on....
