Today is your day Boomer! It is not a pleasent topic to talk about....but it is a reality. It is called "grey divorce", a new trend in Canada that points to more and more couples aged 50 and older splitting up. Yes, the average age of divorce is now 48....and our divorce rate is hovering around the 40% level. Wow, that sounds high....but is true according to a new report on Global News. (3)"Senior couples look at it as they only have so much more time left to enjoy life." (4) "Baby boomers also have more wealth than any other generation in history, so they can afford to live in separate households." (5)"In addition, there is a significant number of unmarried older people than ever before, meaning there are more people out there to re-partner with after divorce."(6)"Data suggests that the financial impact of a grey divorce tends to be greater on women than men, and women are more likely than men to initiate a divorce in the first place." I guess that's enough...it is rather depressing to think about. Hope it doesn't happen to you Boomers, and happy Valentines Day tomorrow! Don't forget....
