Today is your day Boomer! As my golf season gets set to open this weekend, a few thoughts for Boomers.....(1) Golf is getting rather expensive, isn't it? Annual dues and daily green fees are up substantially since COVID and even beer, a mainstay of the 19th hole, has bubbled up in price! (2)There is more demand for tee times, especially from Boomers who are hitting retirement age and we are playing more games; at our course last year, we had quite a few players over 100 rounds and the average was about 70. (3)Boomers have to deal with a variety of aches and pains when they play; for example, aging for me means pain in a hip, knee, and Achilles tendon! (4)Grey-haired males still dominate most golf courses, but more and more women are taking up the sport. (5)More older Boomers means more use of carts on courses; however, my buddies and I like to walk for the exercise and we always think of a recent study that shows golf walkers live longer! Okay Boomers, have a good season. May the birds and eagles be with you! Cheers.
Today is your day Boomer! And today is another day for wining......and I don't mean complaining. I mean drinking some pressed grapes and enjoying the health benefits. That's right, drinking alcohol is good for you. First, let's state the obvious....only in moderate amounts: two glasses per day for men and one for women. Research shows the following positive health effects: (1) reduces risk of Alzheimer's and Parkinson disease (2) is an anti-flammatory(white wine is better for this) (3) decreases risk of high blood pressure and high cholesterol(red wine is a better choice) (4) good for mental health, may increase age longevity, may promote healthy gut bacteria. All of this sounds good and much of it boils down to the antioxidants which are higher in red wine. It seems reds--like Merlot, Cab Sav, and Shiraz--have been studied more.....which means more research is needed on whites. Boomers, maybe we could volunteer for a new study! Cheers!
