Today is your day Boomer! How many putters do you have in your bag Boomer golfers? I know one guy that has four, including the supposed-best-of-all putters....the Scotty Cameron. This apparently is the best putter in the world for 30 years, is used by great players like Tiger Woods, and sells for 600-1000 dollars! Yes, another example of consumerism...a time when we grew-up Boomers, a time when we spent, spent, spent and created a very-materialistic world! Well, the younger generations are now apparently saying NO to this trend. It is called the "underconsumption core”, and it's an emerging trend that’s basically the opposite of the buy-it-all mindset that you often see. And according to thesimplicityhabit.com, "it comes as a welcome relief to those who are tired of trying to keep up with expensive lifestyles and unrealistic expectations." Here is an example: "Instead of buying everything new, underconsumption core is all about buying second-hand. Thrifting for clothes, furniture, and books is a hobby that many have embraced – and one that you’ll constantly see highlighted on social media." It is a new minimalist approach to life...something maybe we Boomers should try. So, use your old putter, the non-Scotty Cameron one, sell the others or give them to a thrift store and SIMPLIFY your life! Hmmmmmmmm...
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
