Today is your day Boomer! Here is an x-ray of my new hip! It's been 3 weeks today since my operation and, thankfully, all systems are a BIG go! Here is my good news update: **week number one was tough, but all is good since **I am driving again and taking hot tubs **my five-inch incision is healing nicely and the staples are gone **I am off the major painkillers and am just taking Tylenol **all my bodily systems are working **I am going back to work this week **I am walking outside 25-30 minutes per day **I have started physiotherapy and my specialist says I am ahead of schedule **I have no acute, stabbing pain, just a little pain around the edges **I am doing normal things like attending high school basketball games and going for coffee with my golf buddies **I am very dilligent in doing my physio exercises twice per day and then using ice **I have abondoned my four-wheel walker, my crutches and almost my cane **I am walking most of the time now without any assistance **I can easily do stairs **I can help with light household duties **My wife and I can host dinner gatherings again. In short, I feel kind of almost....normal. Whew. Three months of physio coming up, slow and steady progress, and then Spring...and regular activity again! Boomers, you will see me on the tennis and pickleball courts, out walking and hiking, and, of course, golfing. Cheers!!
Today is your day Boomer! Relaxing in my hot tub this morning, I had reflections of the 1970 CCR song "Lookin' out my Back Door". Yes, that kind of druggy, but catchy song, about the view of your backyard. Mine is spectacular: colourful sunrises, big ponderosa pines, cheer, apple, fir, and weeping willow trees, two mountains, sheep and chickens next door, two frolicking golden retrievers, beautiful green grass and what seems like a thousand birds...including quail, pheasant, chickadees, woodpeckers, and blue jays. And what else? Well....the quiet, the solitude, and the chance for reflection with no sirens, car noise, yelling people, or neighbours invading your privacy. It was...is...just beautiful, and I am so blessed to live in a rural area in BC's Okanagan Valley. Boomers, what's out your back door? John Fogerty's "tangerines and elephants" or something like my cheeries and coyotes? Check it out and appreciate the little things in life. Cheers...
