Today is your day Boomer! Are you a Boomer pot smoker? No big deal nowadays....as you are in the majority. About 55% of North American Boomers are using or have used cannabis in the past, and "daily" use has taken an uptick. According to a new study, daily and near-daily cannabis use is now more common than similar levels of drinking in the U.S.! This is for all ages, not just Boomers. And the study's author Jonathon Caulkins adds "Alcohol is still more widely used, but 2022 was the first time this intensive level of marijuana use overtook high-frequency drinking; 40 per cent of current cannabis users are using it daily or near daily, a pattern that is more associated with tobacco use than typical alcohol use." This means many people are addicted and many use it like alchol....like having a social glass of wine before or during dinner. Boomers use it for medicinal and recreational reasons, and of course, we grew up in the pot era of the 1960s-70s....when

Today is your day Boomer! Another blog today on e-bikes....supposedly all the rage with Boomers....as we continue to surprise many with our big emphasis on aging health and wellness. According to leedsbikes.com, we are often called the "fitness generation" and here are 10 reasons to start or keep-on e-biking: (1)HELPS BOOMERS REMAIN ACTIVE EVEN WHEN INJURED (2)HELPS MAINTAIN A SENSE OF BALANCE (3)LOW-IMPACT EXERCISE IS SAFER ON BONES AND JOINTS (4)EXERCISE IN GROUPS (5)GO AT OUR OWN PACE (6)UPHILL WITH LESS EFFORT: Even with obstacles like hills on their path, we can still get through their workout. The electric bike is known for making it easier to go up hills. However, it still requires us to work those muscles as they climb those hills. (7)FITS INTO DAILY FITNESS ROUTINES (8)DON’T NEED A GYM MEMBERSHIP (9)MUCH MORE FUN THAN STATIONARY BIKES (10)AN E-BIKE KIT GOES PLACES FOR LESS. Yes, you can buy a standard e-bike or get a cheaper kit that converts your old bike to elect

Today is your day Boomer! I met a fellow Boomer last weekend that says he "souped up" his e-bike so he could get to places quicker and could ride more safely on highways. I wonder if he knows about the new rules now in place for B.C. Highways? Do you? As of early April 2024, here is a summary:(Castanet.net) Standard e-bikes: • Cannot have motors exceeding 500 W continuous power output rating • Must have a maximum speed of 32 km/h • Can have either pedal or throttle operated motors that can be disengaged • Must have brakes that meet braking standards • Cannot be operated by anyone under the age of 16 years old on a highway Light e-bikes: • Cannot have motors exceeding 250 W continuous power output rating • Must have a maximum speed of 25 km/h • Are limited to pedal-operated motors (must not have a throttle) • Must have brakes that meet braking standards • Cannot be operated by anyone under the age of 14 years old on a highway • Cannot be operated by anyone under the age

Today is your day Boomer! I feel for you Canuck fans....another game seven series loss and the ultimate disappointment of losing to the McOilers! This after having a 3-2 series lead and beating Edmonton many times during the regular season, including an opening game 8-1 humbling of McDavid and Company. Okay, let's do the math now.....hmmmmmmm, the blue and green now have gone 54 years without a Stanley Cup and you are only three years behind the lowly Toronto Maple Laughs! Chuckle, chuckle....I know, I know, Boston was eliminated last week too....but our team has won numerous Cups including a 2011 win over these same Canuckleheads! At least, there was no rioting last night Canuck fans....good on you. If you lose, lose with respect, grace, and sportsmanship. And keep trying....obviously it is hard to win against 31 other teams, but you have good management and a great group of core players. Fingers crossed, there is always "next year"....or Boomer Canuck fans...next

Today is your day Boomer! Some Boomers like part-time jobs....and I think we would all like a job that isn't too tough, and pays well! Well....how about a "caddie" job for a professional golfer? Check out the picture and realize a guy named Ted made about 1.7 million dollars for caddying with the top male golfer in the world(some guy named Scottie) in the past 10 events. What does a caddy do? Basically....carries the clubs, gives some sage advice, and gets a nice tan....four days a week. Bingo! Usually that means about 7% of the golfer's earnings go to the caddy! Sounds good right? You get to travel the world with your friend, stay in fancy places, walk the best courses out there(like Augusta!), see your player make history(live and close up!), and only break a small sweat. Sign me up....what a great job for many Boomers, like me, who love the game of golf and all things associated with it!! Cheers.

Today is your day Boomer! Has this restaurant chain lost its mind? Boston Pizza, in Penticton BC, has changed messages on its big sign in the past few days....I guess, to get more business and cash! In the playoffs' first round, they show "Oilers" support and now they have switched to "Canucks", possibly due to pressure from a local online petition. One of the comments called for a restaurant boycott: "You’re on BC soil, that’s a slap in the face to have that up when we are playing Edmonton. Do the right thing and take it down.”(Penticton Herald) And I say he is right! A BC restaurant that is a so-called "sports bar" should support its local teams....and, by the way, this is not the first time Boston Pizza has been two-faced. During the 2011 Stanley Cup final between Boston and Vancouver, they actually switched their name to "Vancouver Pizza"! That was it, I was done going to their restaurant....and I haven't returned! Today is your day Boomer! Actually....yesterday was MY day! My beloved Bruins ousted Toronto in game 7 of the Stanley Cup playoffs and I celebrated with much emotion. Not only did my team win, we took out the hated Maple Leafs who have not won a cup since 1967. Boohoo. By the way, that is the year the Bruins team was given to me by my family. What? Yes, in those days there were only six NHL teams and there six members in my family...that watched hockey every Saturday night on CBC. Since I was the youngest, I got the worst team-Boston. Then Bobby Orr came along, the Bruins won the cup three years later and the rest is history....my hockey history, because if you know me well, you know I am very loyal to my teams, my teams in Boston(in all sports!)and my teams in Summerland where my kids played. I'm sure many Boomers are the same way, long-time loyalty is hard to give up, and really it is all about PASSION! It is who I am...

Today is your day Boomer! We Boomers eat a lot of fruits and veggies....hoping they are good for us and will help stay healthy and live longer. Generally, research supports this idea...but some fruits, like bananas, have had a questionable reputation. So...let's set the record straight. According to Okanagan Naturopath Doug Lobay, "as one banana contains less than 100 calories and less than one gram of fat, they do not make you fat. Bananas are a healthy snack and are included in the main course in many tropical countries." He adds "they also includes 2.6 grams of fibre, 12 grams of sugars and no cholesterol. It is a myth perpetuated by some in the nutritional industry that bananas are extremely high in potassium. They contain average amounts of potassium compared to other fruits and vegetables." As for health benefits, they can help you lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart disease and strokes, improve insulin sensitivity in Type 2 diabetics, aid i
