Today is your day Boomer! Recently a driver fell asleep at the wheel and got into an accident on BC's famed Coquihalla Highway. He rolled his vehicle several times and was lucky to escape with minor injuries. Obviously, it could have been alot worse. When I drive, I find I get drowsy in the early-to-late afternoon and I pass off the responsibility to my wife. Here are some more tips from Health Encyclopedia: "Never drink and drive. Alcohol reduces your driving ability and worsens tiredness. It's also illegal to drive under the influence of alcohol. If possible, don’t drive long distances alone. If you have a companion on your drive, you’ll have someone to talk with. Plus you can take turns driving. Get enough shut-eye. You’re more likely to nod off at the wheel if you have slept for less than 8 hours the night before. Don’t begin a trip so late that you’re driving when you usually sleep. Start when you’re fresh and alert. Watch your posture. Hold your head up and don

Today is your day Boomer! This Boomer couple(Linda and Don) have figured out a different way to travel across Canada this summer.....a cheaper way. Their initial cost to drive across the nation on a one month trip was up to about $15,000 with the high price of gas and inflation. So instead, they chose cheap flights and a rental car in the Atlantic region on a two week holiday. They used flight points to reduce the air costs. That's the kind of thing we have to do Boomers, as the price of fuel just keeps going up and up! Adjust, rethink....be flexible. I use my Air Miles points to reduce my gas pump hysteria....that helps. But parking the RV more this summer, fewer long trips, and more "staycations" may be in the cards. CBC also has this advise to help reduce gas consumption: Plan your trip to avoid rush-hour travel and extra stops. Take your vehicle in for a tune-up before setting out on a road trip. Shop around for lower gas prices. Loyalty programs, credit card

Today is your day Boomer! Remember that old Bobby McFerrin song "Don't Worry, Be Happy"? Need a reminder: *Here's a little song I wrote *You might want to sing it note for note *Don't worry, be happy *In every life we have some trouble *But when you worry you make it double *Don't worry, be happy *Don't worry, be happy now.... Boomers, I really think aging is all about attitude. Yes, we all have aches and pains: arthritis, a bad back, tennis elbow, frozen shoulder, etc. But how do we deal with it? Yup, get medical help, persist and push through those iffy days with a positive attitude! *Now there is this song I wrote *I hope you learned note for note *Like good little children, don't worry, be happy *Now listen to what I said, in your life expect some trouble *When you worry you make it double *But don't worry, be happy, be happy now.... It often IS all about attitude, dude! So, don't worry so much, be more happy Boomers, and cheers to li

Today is your day Boomer! I sure miss my Mom today....she passed away 27 years ago at the tender age of 64. That is now the age that I am approaching this next month, and it is hard to believe that she was gone(because of cancer) so young. 64 is not even an official "senior" yet. At my house this morning, our kids are already phoning my wife with special Mothers' Day calls and we have a Facetime dinner together tonight! She got some flowers yesterday and will be able to do what she wants all day with me....even if it means gardening for 12 hours straight! Many Boomers, like me, realize that Mom is the glue of many families. She does it all....job, homemaker, and cheerleader to all of us! She is so special and she deserves our attention and full focus today! Appreciate it Boomers...you are so lucky if your Mom is still here. Cheers Mama...

Today is your day Boomer! It was a little puzzling for me the other day when a group of people made me feel bad about wearing a mask in public. I was gathered with a small group of older men waiting for an event to happen when two men began to question and tease me. No one else was wearing a mask. I had to defend myself and remind them that COVID safety is a matter of "personal choice" and that the pandemic is still raging among us. Lots of people are still getting COVID; it's just not as serious as it used to be. A friend of mine missed a whole week of work just recently and didn't feel well at all. I remind everyone of the numbers; the World Health Organization reported this week that 15 million people died of COVID in 2020-21, we have experienced over a half billion cases worldwide, and the "estimates for a 24-month period (2020 and 2021) include a breakdown of excess mortality by age and sex. They confirm that the global death toll was higher for men

Today is your day Boomer! I don't usually criticise these two guys.....afterall, they have tough jobs as leaders of BC and Canada. But, as the old saying goes, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen! Supposedly, both John Horgan and Justin Trudeau, used the "F" word during parliamentary question periods in the past two weeks. Debate does get heated during these sessions, but these two men are veterns of politics and should be able to handle it. Trudeau's Dad, Pierre, did the same thing in the 1970s when he uttered the famous "fuddle-duddle" expletive. As for Justin.....this is not the first time Trudeau has been under scrutiny for his language. In 2011, when he was a Liberal MP in opposition, he apologized to the House after calling then-environment minister Peter Kent a “piece of s—” during another heated debate. Come on guys, get your act together. The world is watching and most importantly, kids are. You are role models whether yo

Today is your day Boomer! Don't you hate it when you buy something and it doesn't work? This spring I forked out about 60 dollars for Weed and Feed and the result three weeks later is yellowville! Look at this picture and realize my Dandylion collection just went through the roof. It is a yellow carpet of mistrust and it actually really annoys me.....not only because the product wasn't effective, but also because we have a big family gathering in the backyard later in May and I wanted our grass to be almost perfect. What should I do? Contact the company....phone the store that I bought it from? Never buy it again? Maybe I could blame global warming, but I guess not, because April temperatures were 2 and 1/2 degrees cooler than a normal year?! Maybe I could spray green paint on those yellow weeds to make them look like grass?! Okay, I sound desperate, but what would a Boomer do? My golfing friend spends 500 bucks a year for a professional lawn service to keep his g

Today is your day Boomer! I know many Boomers watch Jeopardy every night at 7:30 on ABC....but why watch now? Well, if your head has been stuck in the sand somewhere, you maybe haven't realized that a young Canadian is kicking butt on the American show! Mattea Roach of Toronto has won 20 straight nights as of Monday and has amassed almost a half million dollars in cash! Well...this is pretty exciting isn't it? What does Mattea think? "That's always going to be a part of how I'm remembered -- as this representative of Canada and the best Canadian to go on," she said in an interview with The Canadian Press ahead of her 13th game. "I hope someone someday is even more winning than I am." How good is she? I watched one night last week with my mother-in-law and Mattea answered the first six questions very quickly and without any competition.....she eventually won by 20 thousand dollars. She is now in 5th place for all-time wins, but is well behind

Today is your day Boomer! Not to start off your week with bad news.....but, the science naysayers just got a kick in the butt today. The critics who don't believe in climate change and global warming, led by people like Donald Trump, should look at India and Pakistan right now. Those two Asian nations having a spring-less spring with temperatures soaring well into the high forties Celcius....that is almost 7 degrees above their normal average! According to Chandi Singh, a senior researcher in India, they "don't have a heat action plan and there are gaps in planning. You can only adapt so much. This heat wave is testing the limits of human survivability." India is experiencing school closures, train shutdowns, power pauses, crop stress, and of course, human health suffering and death. It is likely a sign of things to come. And another indication that our so-called "heat domes" of last summer are here to stay....and darn it world, we have to keep gett
