Today is your day Boomer! I continue through the holiday season with Boomer "favourite" activities. Three are done, now here are two more: (1) Exploring technology: According to howstuffworks.com, "boomers take pleasure in learning about new technology, but there's a catch: They're biased toward tech that carries out their needs. And social media sites Facebook prove particularly useful to maintain and make new friends. Boomers are also more adventurous in dating online when compared to their older counterparts." (2) Social experiences: "which is why socials, art galleries, sporting events and cultural experiences are so popular among the group. Interacting with people in public rather than staying at home comes natural to this outgoing generation. Also, surveys have found that baby boomers plan on taking advantage of living in communities tailored to their generation." So, places, like Predator Ridge near Vernon, BC, are very popular with Boomer...

Today is your day Boomer ! I continue my blog on Boomers' most popular activities. According to howstuffworks.com, "staying fit" is number one. (2)Career changes: apparently many Boomers are not retiring at age 65. "According to one industry survey, baby boomers reported wanting to switch to professions such as consulting and teaching, where they can use their experiences to help and guide others. Some even reported wanting to be tour guides, leading leisurely trips through tourist spots. Boomers are also testing the waters of the entrepreneurial world, as many have expressed interest in creating new businesses or independent work." (3)Enjoying music: I personally have 1100 songs on my Iphone....most of it rock n'roll and pop! "Boomers still wax nostalgic about their concert-going past and enjoy listening to good tunes, particularly if they're performed live. Groups such as the Rolling Stones -- and even U2, a multigenerational favorite made up of ...

Today is your day Boomer! This blog promotes the lifestyles of Baby Boomers....but many people may have the wrong impression of who we are. Since many Boomers are seniors and are retired, some other generations may think we head to the bingo hall on Saturday nights. Wrong. If anything, we are young seniors, we are very active, and we are "redefining" what it means to age! My next few blogs will focus on 10 very popular Boomer activities like "staying fit" (howstuffworks.com). "Hitting the gym and playing sports are popular among baby boomers. These individuals focus on feeling healthy and young while also combating obesity and other health-related problems. Boomers participate in a mix of solitary and group activities such as tennis, golf, jogging, walking and aerobic exercise, to name a few. Because baby boomers were the first to be targeted by health advertisers on TV, it's not surprising that they take their well-being seriously. But the generation ...

Today is your day Boomer! He is probably the most famous Baby Boomer in the world right now....he is also Time Magazine's Man of the Year, he seems to be governing the United States before he is even sworn in as president, and now he is taking a joke too far! Of course, he is Donald Trump, the "president-elect" of the good ol' US of A...and I have one simple thing to say to him: STOP IT! Stop calling Canada the "51st state" of America and stop calling our prime minister "governor"...which, if you didn't know, is the official leader of a U.S. state like California. His joke at a party in Florida, with Trudeau at the same dinner table, was likely funny...I guess. But now Trump has kept it up with three more insulting references, including a big social media post yesterday: "Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st State. They would save massively on taxes and military protection. I think it is a great idea. 51st State!!!"(CTV...

Today is your day Boomer! It was nice to start off my morning media reads with a Christmas message from the president of Pickleball Canada. Obviously a funny guy, this is what David Snell had to say to us "picklers": "take a break from your daily routines, 'Eat, Dink and Be Merry' and have a 'Volley, Jolly Christmas'! He speaks to us in a monthly "Kitchen Sink Newsletter" and reminds us that your eyewear protection is no good in your bag! Thanks David, good advice as that hard plastic ball comes over the net very fast....often at eye level. At last count, there were 1.37 million of us across the country, with many young people joining the sport. But the vast majority are Boomers, like us, who crave the socialization, sport, and competition. Many also play tennis in the summer and sometimes squash or racquetball in the colder months. Speaking of winter, this is a picture of the huge indoor pickleball facility in Vernon, B.C. which attracts ...

Today is your day Boomer! And this holiday season is quite a day for an-almost Boomer who will be shipping 100-plus handmade toques to frigid Ukraine. Yes, 83-year-old Inge Raudzus knitted them all herself this year looking ahead to the cold winter months and Ukrainians victimized by war. She says "I can just imagine the children that don’t have anything and are cold. I've been there, I know what it feels like.” Raudzus was a child living in Berlin during the Second World War, in what became East Berlin under Soviet occupation after the war. Care parcels didn’t make it to that part of Berlin very often, but she did receive one cherished gift of condensed milk!(Summerland Review) By the way, knitting time for each toque is about 5 hours.....so, you do the math; she is totally committed: "If somebody really wants to do something, and if you’re strong-willed, you will do it! And you don’t really always have to give money." Wise words and strong actions, Boomers. Coul...

Today is your day Boomer! It is just like Beatlemania....and didn't many of us Boomers get swept up in that rage in the early 1960s? It is the last night of the Taylor Swift Eras Tour in Vancouver at BC Place Stadium. Want some short, "swift" facts on the tour? **149 shows, 9 in Canada **estimated US$2.2 billion in revenue **fans will surprise her by singing "Happy Birthday" at tonight's show, ahead of Swift's 35th birthday on Dec. 13 **Swift chose Canada because fans not only know the lyrics, they "scream them." **70 per cent of ticket holders were not from the Vancouver area **tickets were very expensive, but Swift's team released a chunk of $16 tickets for seats behind the stage. **each concert-goer gets a special light-up wristband that flashes different coloured lights throughout Swift's performance, creating a twinkling effect in the stadium **up to 95 per cent of concert-goers were expected to be female, many in their teens **...

Today is your day Boomer! A few years ago, we travelled past a Washington State ski hill on a very snowy, winter day.....and I marvelled at the huge number of Subarus in the parking lot. They outnumbered other vehicles, including four-wheel drive trucks like mine, by about a 3-1 margin! Now I know why. According to Consumer Reports, which has been doing car evaluation forever, Subaru is rated #1 for new vehicle buyers in 2025. The all-wheel, Boxer engine, Japanese mobile outdoes other competition in the top five like Lexus and BMW. Why? According to CR: "When they design or redesign a new model, they tend to iterate on last year's models and this approach tends to lend itself towards good reliability because they work out the kinks, so to speak, over time. On top of that, their vehicles perform well in our testing." Hmmmmm. Okay, who made the bottom five....the worst choices for car buyers? Dodge, GMC, Land Rover, Rivian and Jeep. Wow....Land Rover has really fallen ha...
